This is a 32-year-old patient before and after a breast lift with SurgiSculpt to fix her droopy breast appearance.

Choosing to get a breast lift is a life-changing decision. As such, we at SurgiSculpt try to provide our patients with all the information they require about breast lift risks to make an informed decision they will not regret.

Breast lift risks range from minor side effects to major complications, and a trained breast lift expert should be requested for your surgery. SurgiSculpt surgeons have performed hundreds of breast lift procedures and observed various complications.

As with all surgeries with general anesthesia, patients may wake up with dizziness, nausea, vomiting, bruising, and soreness from undergoing general anesthesia. However, this blog was written to discuss the risks associated with breast lift surgery.

A well-documented breast lift risk you should be aware of follows a suboptimal technique that involves a peri-areolar incision called the doughnut mastopexy. This surgery promises the results of a traditional breast lift without the vertical incision line. However, this breast lift is fraught with a suboptimal lift of only 2 cm and a very well-known complication. Poor scarring of the areola can occur and is characterized by the “radiating burst” scar that looks like sun rays extending from the areola. This complication occurs because the tension is placed on the areola rather than being redirected to the rest of the breast tissues.

Other breast lift risks include:

  • Poor healing or incisions. This complication is minimized by using a meticulously layered closure and the placement of Steri-Strips that help support your incision line. The Steri-Strips are maintained for approximately one month, after which you will be asked to apply silicone gel to your incision lines daily to help optimize incision line healing.
  • Numbness or hypersensitivity of the nipples. Breast lift risks involve irritating the sensory nerves in your breasts. An experienced surgeon such as SurgiSculpt will take extra precautions in these areas to ensure a safe outcome.
  • Hematoma formation or bleeding may occur and may result in the need for take back to the operating room to evacuate any excessive bleeding.
  • Breast asymmetry may persist, especially if there is any asymmetry preoperatively.

Breast lift risks are important in deciding whether this surgery is right for you. If you have any additional questions and want to know what SurgiSculpt surgeons do to reduce breast lift risks, please get in touch with us for a complimentary consultation.
