The ideal buttock size and shape can be very subjective. The subjectivity can be driven by patients’ perception of the ideal buttock shape. It is likely most affected by the perceived image of their own body. Buttock desires can have a wide range and span from square butts to rounder butts, from athletic butts to wide buttocks that extend at the mid-butt level beyond the hip bones. A Brazilian Butt Lift that involves the transfer of fat cells to the buttock region can range amongst a variety of butt shapes that include the refinement or alteration of butt cheek shape or the addition of generous volume as portrayed by famous buttock stars such as Kim Kardashian.

For example, if patients have conceived their body as fat, they are likelier not to desire an enlarged or augmented buttock. Or, if a patient has been thin all her life, she may desire a more generous buttock to give the curves she has never had.

In effect, we surveyed our patients who desired a buttock augmentation with fat grafting. We evaluated the effect of age, ethnicity, and religion to determine if these demographics would affect the ideal buttock size and shape. In this study, we surveyed over 400 patients and observed interesting significant trends.

In addition, we altered the position of maximum fullness(buttock width), ranging from the upper, middle, to lower positions. The study’s findings for the buttocks width to waistline ratios were affected by age, religion, and ethnicity when viewed from the back. Patients aged greater than 44 years of age tended to choose the smaller buttocks sizes. Additionally, Muslims preferred smaller buttock sizes. In contrast, African Americans preferred smaller buttock sizes.

Regarding the positioning of maximum fullness, all respondents preferred the maximum fullness over the middle pole. Interestingly, African Americans and Hispanics preferred the lower pole more than any other group as their second favorite.
