48-year-old female patient 3-months following high definition VASER liposuction of the upper back, middle back, lower back and flanks, as well as fat grafting to the lateral hips and a Brazilian Buttock Lift.

Introduction: Back Liposuction

Back liposuction is a proven cosmetic surgical procedure that has delivered excellent results. When considering back liposuction it is critical to evaluate both excess fat as well as skin redundancy. This concern is best appreciated by the observed fat that you can feel when you pinch your back, but also the bra rolls that you can see falling out of your bra.

Comprehensive Back Liposuction Evaluation

When patients come to SurgiSculpt for evaluation, patients are provided a comprehensive evaluation denoting all areas of excess fat and skin redundancy located over the upper, middle, and lower back, and flanks. Over the upper and middle back, bra rolls are often observed as single, double, and even triple in number. The more skin redundancy, the more bra rolls observed. In the lower back and flanks, skin redundancy may not be evident preoperatively, but your surgeon must anticipate the creation of skin redundancy following planned fat removal. This is because the excess fat in the lower back and flanks is routinely extensive.

Appreciating Skin Redundancy Following Liposuction

Following debulking of the lower back and flank fat, resultant skin redundancy can become apparent. If skin redundancy of the lower back and flanks is created, this will result in drooping of the skin over the lateral thighs which is indicative of increasing cellulite of the lateral thighs and even the lower buttocks cheek.

Skin Redundancy amenable to Renuvion Skin Tightening

As such, the intervention of skin redundancy is a critical component of clients considering back lipo. When skin redundancy of the upper, middle, or lower back is minimal to moderate, then Renuvion skin tightening can provide an excellent treatment modality.

Skin  Excision for Back Skin Redundancy

However, when skin redundancy of the upper and middle back is moderate to extensive, then consideration of a skin excision supplement to back lipo must be made. Excision of the upper and middle back is often performed as an extension of the breast lift incision and is called an upper body lift. When skin redundancy of the lower back and flanks is moderate to extensive, then consideration of a skin excision supplement to back lipo must be made. Excision of the lower back and flanks is often performed as an extension of the tummy tuck incision and coined a lateral thigh and buttock tuck.

Conclusion: Back Liposuction

Once provisions have been made to address skin redundancy, comprehensive liposuction of the back must be considered. Comprehensive back fat removal requires knowledge of variable fat layers in the back. The back is unique since the fat in subcutaneous layers is not isolated to the superficial and deep layers. Instead, the fat can be found in a unique mid-layer, thus accounting for three separate layers. Intimate knowledge of the multiple-layer presence of the fat cells allows SurgiSculpt surgeons to effectively remove the fat.
