Generational Plastic Surgery Trends
Definite differences in generational trends were observed based on amongst generations. Generational divisions are based on the age of clients and include: Baby Boomers, aged 55 to 69, Generation X, aged 40 to 54, Millennials, aged 30 to 39, and Generation Z, aged 19 to 29. When it comes to cosmetic surgery, generation X accounted for 45 % of cases and Baby Boomers accounted for 30 % of cases. Less inclined cosmetic surgery clients included Millennials with only 16% of cases and Generation X a mere 6%!
The most likely group to get cosmetic surgery, Generation X, underwent the following procedures in order of prevalence.
- 57 percent of all botulinum toxins
- 51 percent of buttock lifts
- 50 percent of hyaluronic acid fillers
- 48 percent of all tummy tucks
- 43 percent of all breast implant removals
Other interesting trends with respect to the highest prevalence with respect to surgical procedure included:
- 50 percent of facial procedures performed by Baby Boomer clients
- 35 percent of breast augmentations were performed on Millennial clients
- 41 percent of buttock augmentations with fat grafting were performed on Millennial clients
- 37 percent of rhinoplasties were performed by Generation Z clients
Plastic Surgery Trends in Men
Plastic surgery has become more prevalent in men. In 2022 alone, over 1.5 million men sought plastic surgery. Of these patients, over 1.4 million male patients took advantage of minimally invasive procedures that maintain the advantage of shorter recovery. Their utilization of minimally invasive procedures demonstrated a staggering 253 % increase in cases from only 2 years earlier.
Top procedures included neuromodulator injections, commonly called “Botox,” and dermal fillers, which jumped 65 percent and 70 percent in male patients respectively since 2019. Sclerotherapy, the most common treatment for improving the appearance of varicose and spider veins on the legs, saw a rise of 54 percent in male patients from 2019.
Surgeon Fees in Plastic Surgery Trends
In 2022, patients spent up to $26 billion on cosmetic procedures and surgeries. The average surgeon’s fee ranged from $3,000 to $10,000 for invasive surgeries and $500 to 2000 for minimally invasive procedures.
